Opening Prayer
Jesus you ‘walked in our shoes’ you know all too well the human condition. I do not want to hide anything in my heart from you. You know how often I am pulled in different directions and how easily I lose my way. Jesus walk with me and lead me home. -A2J Community (Silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. -Psalm 46:1-2 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my distresses. Look on my affliction and my pain and forgive all my sins. -Psalm 25:16-18 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. -Matthew 6:19-24 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayer for Ourselves and Others I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone. -I Timothy 2:1 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Gracious God, thank you for this gift of a life so rich with meaning and eternal purpose. Thank you for the awesome glory of being in Your image, the privilege of being a maker in Your kingdom. Open my ears to Your instruction, open my eyes to Your handiwork, open my heart to the joy of union with You. Take all that I am; my desires and sensitivities, my energy and strength, my flaws and weaknesses, and love Your world through me. -Leanne Payne (1932-2015) Bamberg, Germany
