DAILY PRAYER 121

Picture
Cherkova, Bulgaria
Opening Prayer
You are the Lord, the God of all humankind.  Nothing is too difficult for you.
-Jeremiah 32:27

(silent reflection)

Prayer of the Bible

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls.  Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.  The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.
-Habakkuk 3:17–19

(Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God)

Confession of Sin
I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
-Psalm 32: 5

(Time of silence for confession of sin)

The Words of Jesus
The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.  Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
-John 14:10-11

(Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus)

Prayers for Ourselves and Others
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
-Romans 12:2

(Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others)

Closing Prayer

Father, True Essence of the Godhead, have mercy on us.
Father, the Light and Creator of all things, have mercy on us.
Father, who sealed humanity with your image, have mercy on us.
Christ, True God and True Man, have mercy on us.
Christ, Rising Sun, through whom are all things, have mercy on us.
Christ, Perfection of Wisdom, have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, Power of life, have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, Breath of Life, life of all things, have mercy on us.
Holy Spirit, bringer of holiness and grace, have mercy on us.
