Opening Prayer
“For you alone, O God, my soul waits in silence, from you comes my salvation.” -Psalm 62:1 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible God gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. -Isaiah 40:29-31 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin “Come, let us return to the Lord; for he has torn us, that he may heal us; he has struck us down, and he will bind us up. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” -Hosea 6: 1-3 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. -John 14:25-28 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Far be it from me that I should sin against You, O Lord, by ceasing to pray for others -I Samuel 12:23 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer O Lord, all merciful: Light within me the fire of your Holy Spirit. Take away this heart of stone and give a heart of flesh and blood, a heart to love and adore you, a heart which may delight in you, love you and praise you, for Christ’s sake. Amen. -Ambrose of Milan (340-397) |
