Opening Prayer
Thank you, Jesus Christ my Lord: In all my trials and sufferings, You give strength to stand firm. Even more you have given me a share in your eternal glory! –Irenaeus of Lyons (130-202) (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man. For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you. -Pslam 71: 4-6 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Father; in your presence we confess the things we wish we could hide from you and the things we try to hide from others. We confess the heartbreak we have caused and the harm we have done that makes it difficult to forgive ourselves. Lord in your mercy forgive us. Amen. -A2J Community (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.” -John 15: 18-20 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others But I call to God, and the LORD saves me. Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. -Psalm 55:16-17 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Everliving God, whose will it is that all should come to you through your Son Jesus Christ: Inspire our witness to him, that all may know the power of his forgiveness and the hope of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen -Book of Common Prayer |
