Opening Prayer There is no one holy like You, O Lord; there is no one beside you; nor is there any Rock like You, Our God. -1 Samuel 2:2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness. The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars. -Psalm 29: 1-5 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Lord Jesus, we come to you trusting that you never grow weary of forgiving us, for you have promised that, though our sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow -A2J Community (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and went into the garden. Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had often met there with his disciples. So Judas came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “I am he,” Jesus said. When Jesus said, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. -John 18: 1-6 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Jesus, you have given us a new commandment: to love one another even as you have love us, so we must love one another. May out prayers be an expression of our love for one another. -John 13:34 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Lord we realize that our vision is so limited we can hardly imagine a love that does not show itself in protection from suffering. For the love of God did not protect His own Son…. He will not necessarily protect us from all things, not from anything it takes to make us like His Son. A lot of hammering and chiseling and purifying by fire will have to go into the process. -Elisabeth Elliot (1926-2015) |
