Opening Prayer
Let me behold you God, for you are exalted in power; who is a teacher like you? -Job 36:22 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds! Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; the peoples fall under you. Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Psalm 45: 4-7 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Lord our God, in our sin we have avoided your call. Our love for you is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes early away. Have mercy on us; deliver us from judgement; bind up our wounds and revive us; in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. -The Book Of Common Worship (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and was teaching. And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. -Mark 1: 21-22 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Out of the depths I call to you, O Lord. O Lord, hear my voice and let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications -Psalm 130: 1-2 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer He who follows Me, says Christ our Savior, walks not in darkness, for he will have the light of life. These are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by them we are admonished to follow His teachings and His manner of living, if we truly be enlightened and delivered from all blindness of heart. Let all the study of our heart be from now on to have our meditation fixed wholly on the life of Christ, for his holy teachings are of more virtue and strength than the words of all angels and saints. And he who through grace has the inner eye of his soul opened to the true beholding of the Gospels of Christ will find in them hidden manna. -Thomas a’ Kempis (1380-1471) |
