Opening Prayer
I will ascribe to you, O Lord, glory and strength. I will ascribe to you the glory due your name and worship you in the beauty of holiness. -Psalm 29: 1-2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations! Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.” -Revelation 15: 3-4 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger or chasten me in your wrath. Be merciful to me, Lord, for I am weak; O Lord, heal me, for my bones are in distress. My soul also is greatly troubled. How long, O Lord, how long? -Psalm 6: 1-3 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon's mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. And the whole city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. -Mark 1: 29-34 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Blessed be God who hears me when I pray. -Psalm 28:6 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Spirit of God, with your Holy breath You cleanse the hearts and minds of Your people; You comfort them when they are in sorrow; You lead them when they wander from the way; You kindle them when they are cold; You knot them together when they are at variance; and You enrich them with many and various gifts. We beseech You daily to increase those gifts which You have entrusted to us; that with Your light before us and within us we may pass through this world without stumbling and without straying. Amen -Erasmus (1466-1536) |
