Opening Prayer
You will carry me. You have made me, and you will bear me; you will sustain me, and you will deliver me. -Isaiah 46:4 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!” For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. -Psalm 90:1-4 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Loving Father, please accept my distractions, my fatigue, my irritations, and faithless wanderings, forgive me all of my sin and bring me to your loving embrace. -A2J Community (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.” -Mark 2:23-28 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. -Psalm 34: 4-5 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Lord, be with me, and help me by Your Spirit, to perform all my duties to Your praise. I pray You be very near to us all; protect us by Your providential care over us, and above all, further visit us by Your love, power, and Spirit. O Lord, turn us, and we shall be turned; help us, and we shall be helped; keep us, and we shall be kept. Amen -Elizabeth Fay (1780-1845) |
