Opening Prayer
For God alone my soul in silence waits; from Him comes my Salvation. -Psalm 62:1 (Silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, his love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his love endures forever. To Him alone who does great wonders, for his love endures forever. Who by his understanding made the heavens, for his love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his love endures forever -Psalm 136: 3-5 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Lord Jesus, come yourself, and dwell with us, be human as we are, and overcome what overwhelms us. Come into the midst of my evil, come close to my unfaithfulness. Share my sin, which I hate and which I cannot leave. -Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes. -Matthew 7:24-29 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayer for Ourselves and Others God delights in genuine prayers. -Proverbs 15:8 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer In the busyness of this day grant me a stillness of seeing, O God. In the conflicting voices of my heart grant me a calmness of hearing. Let my seeing and hearing, my words and my actions be rooted in a silent certainty of your presence. Let my passions for life and the longings for justice that stir within me be grounded in the experience of your stillness. Let my life be rooted in the ground of your peace, O God, let me be rooted in the depths of your peace. -Celtic Benediction |
