Opening Prayer
O Lord, deliver me from every evil work and bring me safely to your heavenly kingdom. -2 Timothy 4: 18 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom and your dominion endures throughout all generations. -Psalm 145: 10-13 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen. -Book of Common Prayer (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus They came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gerasenes. And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. -Mark 5:1-4 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others God delights in genuine prayers. -Proverbs 15:8 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Lord Jesus, thank you for showing us the way. Thank you for being the Way. Thank you for countering all the power-grabbing, prideful pictures of power with the awesome reality of Your self-giving love. Lord we want to follow You, we want to abide in You, we want to please You, but on our own we cannot. We believe our lives are hid with You in God, but help our unbelief. Set Your unbreakable trust in the Father into our hearts. Cleanse us, heal us, and raise us up that we might know more of the joy of imitating Your humility. -Ministry of Pastoral Care |
