Opening Prayer
Lord, let all who take refuge in You be glad; let them ever sing for joy because You defend them. And let those who love Your name be joyful in You. -Psalm 5:11 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. -Psalm 145: 1-6 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin I praise Thee Lord, for cleansing me from sin. Fulfill your Word, and make me pure within. Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame. Grant my desire to magnify your Name. -J. Edwin Orr (1912-1987) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” And Jesus asked him, “What is your name? He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.” So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the sea. -Mark 5:5-13 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. -John 15:7 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer May Your favor, O Lord our God, rest upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us—Yes, confirm the work of our hands -Psalm 90:17 |
