Opening Prayer
I will give thanks to you, the God of heaven, for your merciful love endures forever -Psalm 136:26 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible I will give thanks to you, Lord, for you are good; your lovingkindness endures forever. I will give thanks to you for your unfailing love and your wonderful acts to all your people, for you satisfy the thirsty soul and fill the hungry soul with good things -Psalm 107: 1, 8,9 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin I give God thanks for all that was good in the day that is ending. I ask God's mercy on my sins and omissions this day. I seek God's peace in my home and in all the world this night. Amen -Augustine of Hippo (354-430) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus Jesus’ disciples answered him, “How can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?” And he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” And he directed the crowd to sit down on the ground. And he took the seven loaves, and having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and they set them before the crowd. -Mark 8:4-6 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him -Psalm 28:6-7 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Lord Jesus, when you multiplied the loaves and fishes, you provided more than food for the body, you offered us the gift of yourself, the gift which satisfies every hunger and quenches every thirst! Your disciples were filled with fear and doubt, but you poured out your love and compassion on the migrant crowd, welcoming them as brothers and sisters. We praise you and give you thanks for the family you have called together from so many people. We see in this human family a reflection of the divine unity of the one Most Holy Trinity in whom we make our prayer: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen. -Prayer for Migrants and Refugees |
