Opening Prayer
Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit I welcome and invite your presence! May I rest in your beloved community. Release me from the burden of trying to figure out life on my own. Help me to listen and trust your voice in all things and everywhere I go. -A2J Community (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. -Psalm 46:1-2 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Heart of Jesus in my heart, my heart in thee, unto thy Father’s love in unity of love offer me. Light of Jesus, illumine me to see whatever woundeth thee; that I may sin not unto thee, cleanse me. Power of Jesus in every part, from sin heal me; that nothing be except thy love, inflame me. -Gilbert Shaw (1886-1967) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus And when Jesus, Peter, James and John, returned to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. And immediately all the crowd, when they saw Jesus, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him. And Jesus asked them, “What are you arguing about?” -Mark 9:14-16 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Almighty and everlasting God, mercifully look upon our infirmities, and in all our dangers and necessities stretch forth thy right hand to help and defend us; through Christ our Lord. Amen. -Book of Common Prayer (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth -2 Timothy 2:22-25 |
