Opening Prayer
You are the Lord, the God of all humankind. Nothing is too difficult for you. -Jeremiah 32:27 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Praise be to you, O LORD, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, -I Chronicles 29:10-13 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Father God; in your presence we confess the things we wish we could hide from you and the things we try to hide from others. We confess the heartbreak we have caused and the harm we have done that makes it difficult to forgive ourselves. Lord in your mercy forgive us. Amen. -A2J Community (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” And the disciples were amazed at his words. -Mark 10:23-24 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Heavenly Father, you have promised to hear what we ask in the name of your Son: Accept and fulfill our petitions, we pray, not as we ask in our ignorance, nor as we deserve in our sinfulness, but as you know and love us in your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. –The Book of Common Prayer (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer God give me the courage to be revolutionary as your Son Jesus Christ was. Give me the courage to loosen myself from this world. Teach me to stand up free and to shun no criticism. God, it is for your kingdom. Make me free, make me poor in this world. Then will I be rich in the real world, which this life is all about. God thank you for the vision of the future, but make it fact and not theory. -Henri Nouwen (1932-1996) |
