Opening Prayer
Thank you, Jesus Christ my Lord: In all my trials and sufferings, You give strength to stand firm. Even more you have given me a share in your eternal glory! –Irenaeus of Lyons (130-202) (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible We praise you Jesus—the One who was made a little lower than the angels—now crowned with glory and honor because you suffered death, so that by the grace of God you might taste death for everyone. In bringing many of us to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make you—the author of our salvation—perfect through suffering. -Hebrews 2:9-10 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin All who are thirsty, all who are weak come to the fountain, dip your heart in the stream of life let your sin, pain and sorrows be washed away in the waves of His mercy -All Who Are Thirsty (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus Jesus began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.” -Mark 10:32-34 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, -Ephesians 6:18 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer O Holy Spirit of God, abide with us; inspire all our thoughts; pervade our imaginations; suggest all our decisions; order all our doings. Let the healing grace of your love, O Lord, so transform me that I may play my part in the transfiguration of the world from a place of suffering, death and corruption to a realm of infinite light, joy and love. Make me so obedient to your Spirit that my life may become a living prayer, and a witness to your unfailing presence. -Oxford Book of Prayer |
