Opening Prayer
We praise you, Our Lord. Your lovingkindness is great towards us, and your truth, O Lord, endures forever. -Psalm 117:2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word. Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law. I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me! My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times. Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors. -Psalm 119: 17-21, 24 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Holy God, Lord most gracious! Rebuke us not in your anger, nor chasten us in your wrath! Holy you have called us to come to you. We feel unworthy, for we have failed you again and again. We feel like running away, yet you keep calling us. Have mercy on us, O God. Have mercy! -The Book of Common Worship (1932) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” -Mark 10:38-40 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Jesus, you have given us a new commandment: to love one another even as you have love us, so we must love one another. May our prayers be an expression of our love for one another. -John 13:34 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Jesus Lord and Master, who served your disciples in washing their feet: serve us often, serve us daily, in washing our motives, our ambitions, our actions; that we may share with you in the mission to the world, and serve others gladly for your sake; to whom be glory for ever -Bishop Michael Ramsey (1904-1988) |
