Opening Prayer
May I love you, Lord my God, and serve you with all my heart and with all my soul. -Deuteronomy 11:13 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word. Open my eyes, that I may Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord. Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. The Lord is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth? -Psalm 113: 1-6 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin I have sinned greatly in what I have done. But now, O Lord, take away the iniquity of your servant, for I have acted very foolishly. -2 Samuel 24:10 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” -Mark 10:41-45 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Lord, help us to bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ -Galatians 6:2 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Lord, I called You because I desired to delight in You; I am now prepared to renounce all things for You. You first inspired me to seek You. Therefore, Lord, may You be blessed for having shown Your goodness to Your servant, according to the multitude of Your mercies. Amid all the wonders of heaven and earth, there is no one like You. Therefore, praise and glory to You, who are the Wisdom of the Father, may my lips, my soul, and everything created join in praising and blessing You. -Thomas a Kempis (1380-1471) |
