Opening Prayer
May I give you my heart and may my eyes delight in your ways -Proverbs 23:26 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible ”Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing. -Isaiah 35:6-9 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you. Save me from all my sins -Psalm 39:4-8 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way. -Mark 10:49-51 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. -Psalm 119:147-148 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Heavenly Father I call on you right now in a special way. It is through your power that I was created. Every breath I take, every morning I wake, and every moment of every hour, I live under your power. Father I ask you now to touch me with that same power. For if you created me from nothing, you can certainly recreate me. Fill me with the healing power of your spirit…Let the warmth of your healing love pass through my body to make new any unhealthy areas so that my body will function the way you created it to function. And Father, restore me to full health in mind and body so that I may serve you the rest of my life. I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. -Fr Larry J. Hess (1950-2014) |
