Opening Prayer
You are my light and my salvation, O Lord; whom shall I fear? You are the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? -Psalm 27:1 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. There is no one who calls upon your name, who rouses himself to take hold of you; for you have hidden your face from us, and have made us melt in the hand of our iniquities. But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand. Be not so terribly angry, O Lord, and remember not iniquity forever. Behold, please look, we are all your people. -Isaiah 64:6-9 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin You do not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is Your love for those who fear You; as far as the east is from the west, so far have You removed our transgressions from us. -Psalm 103: 10-12 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus Have you not read this Scripture:“‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”And they were seeking to arrest him but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they left him and went away. -Mark 12:10-12 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Here’s what I'm saying: Ask and you'll get; Seek and you'll find; Knock and the door will open. Don't bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need -Luke 11:9-10 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer O Holy Spirit, give me faith that will protect me from despair, from passions, and from vice; give me such love for God and men as will blot out all hatred and bitterness; give me the hope that will deliver me from fear and faint-heartedness. Amen -Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) |
