Opening Prayer
Stooping down and drawing near in mercy, God like a loving parent, delights in helping the vulnerable and struggling child. God loves us first and is the source of our life and has invited us to become channels of his love. -A2J Community (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. -Psalm 145: 14-18 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin The hour has come for me to wake up form the sleep, for my salvation is nearer now than when I first believed. The night is nearly over, the day is almost here. Therefore may I cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. -Romans 13:11-12 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. -Mark 13:28-31 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer. -I Peter 3:12 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer “O holy Lord Christ draw near to us, or we cannot follow Thee. Give us a strong and willing spirit, and when the weakness of the flesh appears, let Thy grace go on before us, accompany and follow us. For without Thee we can do nothing, least of all suffer a cruel death for Thy sake. Grant a willing spirit, a fearless heart, true faith, steadfast hope, perfect love, that for Thy sake we may, with patience and joy, surrender our life. Amen.” -Jan Hus, (1369-1415) penned two weeks before being burned at the stake |
