Opening Prayer
As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for You, the living God. When shall I come and appear before You? -Psalm 42: 1-2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Thus says the Lord: “In a time of favor I have answered you; in a day of salvation I have helped you; I will keep you and give you as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages, saying to the prisoners, ‘Come out,’ to those who are in darkness, ‘Appear.’ They shall feed along the ways; on all bare heights shall be their pasture; they shall not hunger or thirst, neither scorching wind nor sun shall strike them, for he who has pity on them will lead them, and by springs of water will guide them. -Isaiah 49: 8-10 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are the One I praise -Jeremiah 17:14 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either. Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. -Mark 16:12-15 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others O God, the strength of the weak and the comfort of sufferers: Mercifully accept our prayers and grant to your children the help of your power, that their sickness may be turned into health, and our sorrow into joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen -Book of Common Prayer (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer O Love, O Fire, O Charity, come into us! Be you our leader and our light, the fire that consumes and burns in the repentant sinner, be you our paraclete, our comforter, our advocate and helper in all things for which we pray. Show us what we believe. Grant that for which we hope. And make our faces like unto the face of God. Amen -William of Saint Thierry (1080-1148) |
