Opening Prayer
Jesus, may I set my heart to honor your name with every breath you give me. -Adapted from Malachi 2:2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. Blessed be his glorious name forever; may his glory fill the whole earth. Amen and Amen. -Psalm 72:18-19 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin O God, who for our redemption gave Your only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by His glorious resurrection delivered us from the power of our enemy: grant us to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live with Him in the joy of His resurrection; who lives and reigns now and forever. Amen -Book of Common Prayer (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus While the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon's, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat. And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” When they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” -Luke 5:1-8 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. -Colossians 4:2 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer O Christ Jesus, when all is darkness and helplessness, Give us the sense of Your presence, your love and your strength. Help us to have perfect trust in your protecting love and strengthening power, so that nothing may frighten or worry us, for living close to you, we shall see your hand, your purpose, your will through all things. -Ignatius of Loyola (1491-1556) |
