Opening Prayer
I praise you, Lord! My soul praises you! I will praise you while I live; I will sing praises to you while I have my being. -Psalm 146: 1-2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord—how long? Turn, O Lord, deliver my life; save me for the sake of your steadfast love. For in death there is no remembrance of you; in Sheol who will give you praise? -Psalm 6:2-5 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Have mercy on Your Church, and on this world around us. Come Lord Jesus, come and forgive, cleanse, and restore us. -Apprenticeship to Jesus Community (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus While he was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him. And he charged him to tell no one, but “go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities. But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray. -Luke 5:12-16 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others I will exalt you, O Lord, for you lifted me up and did not let my enemies rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help and you healed me. -Psalm 30: 1-2 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Almighty and ever-living God, Oh Lord Jesus Christ. I come sick to the Doctor of Life and unclean to the Fountain of Mercy, blind to radiance of Eternal Light, and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Lord, in Your great generosity heal my sickness, wash away my defilement, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness. Amen. -Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) |
