Opening Prayer
You are my lamp, O Lord; You turn my darkness into light. With Your help I can advance against a troop; with You I can leap over a wall. -2 Samuel 22:29-30 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them. “You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. -Exodus 15:11-13 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin O Lord, for Thy mercy’s sake, lay not my sins to my charge, but forgive that which is past and give me grace to amend my life, to decline from sin and incline toward virtue, that I may walk with a perfect heart before Thee, now and evermore. -Richard Farrant (1530-1580) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus After this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth. And he said to him, “Follow me.” And leaving everything, he rose and followed him. And Levi made him a great feast in his house, and there was a large company of tax collectors and others reclining at table with them. And the Pharisees and their scribes grumbled at his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.” -Luke 5:27-32 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. -Colossians 4:2 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Lord help us to flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with all those who call on Your name from a pure heart. Give us your grace as not to have anything to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; that they breed quarrels. And help us to be Your servants that are not quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting our opponents with gentleness. That perhaps You may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. Amen -Prayer from 2 Timothy 2:22-25 |
