Opening Prayer
I trust in your loyal love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to you, O Lord, for you have dealt bountifully with me. -Psalm 13:5-6 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing…Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! -Psalm 150: 1-4, 6 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for the sake of your goodness, O Lord. -Psalm 25:6-7 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus On a Sabbath, while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?” And Jesus answered them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?” And he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.” -Luke 6:1-5 (Think deeply on the life and words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Pray to God the Father, through the power of our Master Jesus, through the love of the Spirit. -Romans 15:30 The Message (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Christ, as a light-illumine and guide me. Christ, as a shield-overshadow me. Christ under me; Christ over me; Christ beside me, on my left and on my right. This day be within and without me, lowly and meek, yet all-powerful. Be in the heart of each to whom I speak; in the mouth of each who speaks unto me, Lowly and meek, yet all-powerful. Christ as a light, Christ as a shield, Christ beside me, on my left and my right. -Patrick of Ireland (385-461) |
