Opening Prayer
Make my life a prayer to you, I wanna do what you want me to. No empty words and no white lies, no token prayers no compromise. I wanna shine the light you gave, thru your Son you sent to save us. From ourselves and our despair, it comforts me to know you're really there -Keith Green (1953-1982) American singer/songwriter and minister (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is great to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! -Psalm 57:5 9-11 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Heart of Jesus in my heart, my heart in thee, unto thy Father’s love in unity of love offer me. Light of Jesus, illumine me to see whatever woundeth thee; that I may sin not unto thee, cleanse me. Power of Jesus in every part, from sin heal me; that nothing be except thy love, inflame me. -Gilbert Shaw (1886-1967) Anglo-Irish Church of England Priest (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” -John 10: 16-18 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him -Psalm 28:6-7 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Almighty and most merciful God, we remember before you all poor and neglected persons whom it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them. Help us to heal those who are broken in body and spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy. Grant this, Father, for the love of your Son, who for our sake became poor, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen -Book of Common Prayer |
