DAILY PRAYER 55

Picture
Phoenix, Arizona
Opening Prayer
We taste Thee, O Thou living bread, and long to feast upon Thee still; we drink of Thee, the fountainhead and thirst our souls from Thee to fill
-Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153)

(silent reflection)

Prayer of the Bible
I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.  For I said, “steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.”…Let the heavens praise your wonders, O LORD, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones!  For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD?  Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him?  O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you?
-Psalm 89: 1-2, 5-8

(Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God)

Confession of Sin
You, Lord my God, are gracious and compassionate, and will not turn Your face from me if I return to You.
-2 Chronicles 30:9

(Time of silence for confession of sin)

The Words of Jesus
“Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.  For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”  They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”  Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall not thirst.”
-John 6: 32-35

(Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus)

Prayers for Ourselves and Others
Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!
-Psalm 66:20

(Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others)

Closing Prayer
Jesus, give us a heart as beautiful, pure, and spotless as yours. A heart like yours, so full of love and humility.  May we be able to receive You as the Bread of Life, to love You, to serve You under the mistreated face of the poor. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
-Mother Teresa (1910-1997)
