Opening Prayer
As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for You, the living God. When shall I come and appear before You? -Psalm 42: 1-2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Glory in his holy name; let the heart of those who see the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works he has done, and his miracles and judgments. -I Chronicles 16: 10-12 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are the One I praise -Jeremiah 17:14 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. -John 6: 36-39 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. -Psalm 86:3 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer He who follows Me, says Christ our Savior, walks not in darkness, for he will have the light of life. These are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by them we are admonished to follow His teachings and His manner of living, if we truly be enlightened and delivered from all blindness of heart. Let all the study of our heart be from now on to have our meditation fixed wholly on the life of Christ, for his holy teachings are of more virtue and strength than the words of all angels and saints. And he who through grace has the inner eye of his soul opened to the true beholding of the Gospels of Christ will find in them hidden manna. -Thomas a’ Kempis (1380-1471) |
