Opening Prayer
O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me -Psalm 131: 1,2 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible You are my hope, O Lord God; You are my trust from my youth. As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise You more and more. -Psalm 71: 5,14 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin O Lord our God, grant us grace to desire you with our whole heart: that desiring you, we may seek and find you; and finding you we may love you; and loving you we may hate those sins from which you have redeemed us; for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen. -Anselm of Canterbury (1033-1109) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. -John 5: 26-27 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. -Daniel 6:10 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen -Romans 11:33-36 |
