Opening Prayer
I will sing to You as long as I live; I will sing praise to You, my God, while I have my being. May my meditation be pleasing to You; I will be glad in You, O Lord. -Psalm 104: 33-34 (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” -Revelation 5:11-13 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin “Arise, my soul, arise! Shake off thy guilty fears. The bleeding Sacrifice in my behalf appears: Before the throne my Surety stands; my name is written on His hands, my name is written on His hands.” -Charles Wesley (1707-1788) (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “Fear not, daughter Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” -John 12: 12-15 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others This is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. -1 John 5:15 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer O Lord my God, thank you for bringing this day to a close. Thank you for giving me rest in body and soul. Your hand has been over me and has guarded and preserved me. Forgive my lack of faith and any wrong that I have done today, and help me to forgive all who have wronged us. Let me sleep in peace under your protection, and keep me from all the temptations of darkness. Into your hands I commend my loved ones. I commend to you my body and soul. O God, your holy name be praised. -Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) |
