Opening Prayer
“Lord, I don’t understand what is going on in my own life, let alone the world with all its pain and confusion but I choose again this day to entrust myself, my family, and community into your hands.” Amen -A2J Community (silent reflection) Prayer of the Bible I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord. -Psalm 40: 1-3 (Free expression of praise and thanksgiving to God) Confession of Sin Lord, I have heard of your fame, and I stand in awe of Your deeds. O Lord, revive Your works in our day; In our time make them known; In wrath remember mercy. -Habakkuk 3:2 (Time of silence for confession of sin) The Words of Jesus Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. -John 6: 53-56 (Think deeply on these life-giving words of Jesus) Prayers for Ourselves and Others In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. -Psalm 5:3 (Time to bring before God our own needs and the needs of others) Closing Prayer Dear Father always near us, may your name be treasured and loved, may your rule be completed in us-may your will be done here on earth in just the way it is done in heaven. Give us today the things we need today, and forgive us our sins and impositions on you as we are forgiving all who in any way offend us. Please don’t put us through trials, but deliver us from everything bad. Because you are the one in charge, and you have all the power, and the glory too is all yours-forever-which is just the way we want it! -Dallas Willard (1935-2013) “paraphrase of the Lord’s Prayer” |
